Single-ply roofing is a flat roofing system made of wide sheets of flexible membrane that are designed for low-slope roofs. Single-ply roofs are easier to install than asphaltic rolled roofs because they don’t require torches or hot asphalt, and they come with prefabricated accessories.
Single-ply roofs are primarily installed with three common types of membranes:
Thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO): A thermoplastic that’s durable and cost-competitive
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC): A thermoplastic that’s strong and long-lasting
Ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM): A thermoset that’s cost-effective and flexible in warm climates
